NZ judge orders 'odd' name change

A judge in New Zealand made a young girl a ward of court so that she could change the name she hated - Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii.

Judge Rob Murfitt said that the name embarrassed the nine-year-old and could expose her to teasing.

He attacked a trend of giving children bizarre names, citing several examples.

Officials had blocked Sex Fruit, Keenan Got Lucy and Yeah Detroit, he said, but Number 16 Bus Shelter, Violence and Midnight Chardonnay had been allowed.

One mother wanted to name her child O.crnia using text language, but was later persuaded to use Oceania, he said.

'Social handicap'

The ruling, in the city of New Plymouth on the North Island, was handed down in February but only made public now.

Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii's name has now been changed and the custody case resolved, court officials said.

New Zealand does not allow names that would cause offence or that are longer than 100 characters, Registrar-General Brian Clarke said.

Officials often tried to talk parents out of particularly unusual choices that could embarrass their offspring, the Associated Press news agency quoted him as saying.

This is to take what is not combined and combine them as a phrase. Hence, I say that it cannot be that a white horse is not a horse.

Advocate: You think that there being white horses is there being horses. Is it acceptable to say that there being white horses is there being yellow horses?

Objector: It is not acceptable.

Advocate: If you think that there being horses is different from there being yellow horses, this is for yellow horses to be different from horses. If you differentiate yellow horses from horses, this is to think that yellow horses are not horses. To think that yellow horses are not horses, yet to think that white horses are horses -- this is to turn things upside down and inside out!⁶ This is the most incoherent doctrine and confused discourse in the world!

Objector: If there are white horses, one cannot say that there are no horses, because of what is called "the separability of white." Only according to those people who do not separate can having a white horse not be said to be having a horse. Hence, the reason we think there are horses is only that we think that "horse" is "there are horses." It is not that we think "there are white horses" is "there are horses." Hence, because of the reason that there are horses, one cannot say that a [white] horse [is not] a horse.

Advocate: "White" does not fix that which is white. It ignores that. The expression "white horse" fixes that which is white. That which fixes what is white is not white. one day after Vdae, freddie, yanming and dennis embarked on a secret mission which is equivalent of a mission to kill osama -

mission code 000.

first, freddie went of for his CCA harmonica. yanming and dennis took an 171 bus ride to marina square. we had dinner (korean food at marina food loft) and we went for chingay. this is caused by evelyn's offer of her 2 tickets to chingay. out of excitement, dennis thought that he was able to see MAD in action. thus he ajak yanming and freddie to go along. freddie had riverhongbao performance so he would join us later at around 830.

thus, after the korean dinner, yanming and dennis went to padang. we saw ETIAN the crowdcontrol -.-'' we were informed that the seats for the performance at the main stage are different from the seats we were offered. our seats are at the other side of the padang, watching nothing but the cai2 shen2 ye2 at padang. here's how it went:

we got the seats facing river hongbao, and the only things we could see was the CAI2 SHEN2 YE2 at river hongbao.. we wanted to support yuhan / eve / sharon! it was like URGH how to get to the stage... :( apparently we must have the tix to watch the perf at the stage... so dennis and yanming were quite upset.

freddie was playing his harmonica at river hongbao, and he faced problems crossing the orad from river angpao side to the chingay stage side. the road blocks disabled him from j walking. so the highlights of the evening of chingay were:

1. we could see sharon bigbig and evelyn small small in the giant (camera focussed on sharon -.-') TV beside and stage
2. we saw etian the crowd control at the place b4 everything started
3. freddie damn disturbed by the systems of chingay due to his inability of merely crossing the roads from riverangpao side to chingay side.
4. freddie hated the event as all the volunteers at chingay told him different ways of crossing the road. some asked him go suntec to cross the road and some other asked him to go fullerton -.-' to cross the road

so before and after chingay, we embarked on our secret mission mission code 000.

we went to times bookshop in marina square and we observed some funny books

damn stupid rite... hahaha.. dennis and yanming were watching our school's dance perf called "flower power" and evelyn had a pink flower on her head.. like some weird woman with a flower planted on the head la... HAHAHAHAHA

in view of the deterioration of this blog, i would like to urge all of the students of this class. post something. :D i do know that alot of our classmates + our juniors have been reading this, thus we should post more! :D

alrite. these few days i haf been having the urge to take A WHOLE LOT of pictures. :D

Firstly, lets congratulate nick foo for being the champion (or should we say kevin? -.-') that day me and xuanhan and yanmin went down to the end point to support nick and freddie. freddie also did us proud by being 5th! :D yay!!

thu was valentine's! i was proud of our class as it was evident that our class was the most generous class -.-' look at the amout of bags and presents accumulated at class bench. but first, let's start wif the legendary GP lesson.

very disturbing. i know. :D

if u go back and do a simple calculation, last year we used an entire month of june holidays for mugging, and yet our block test results were disastrous. thus, since we only have one week of holidays for mugging for upcoming march blocks, then:

let n be amount of time per day available for mugging DURING HOLIODAYS for all values of n

amt of time available for blocks last yr = 30n for all values of n (30 days of hols)

and since the amt of time per academic day available is only 0.5 n (have school in the morning)
30n amt of time will make up to 60 academic days.
thus we should start mugging 2 mionths before blocks and get our disastrous results as of last yr.
thus if we want good results (at least better than last yr), we should start 120 academic days before blocks in march. that makes it... around 1st of january. :D

thus, let's start NOW. there's simply not much time left

and as such, we would like the chairpersons of mugger clubs I and II to announce the opening of a brand new mugging season.

Hey 7A,

after the blocks, must let down your hair (no matter how little it is) so. tada, there is one class party which is VERY VERY VERY fun. and i have already booked the place and everything. and the thing is, it is only 2 dolars for one hour.

Time: 5pm-8pm
Date: 29th July 2007 aka TOMORROW!!
Place: Settler Cafe at Clark Quay

Not sure if you guys have been or even heard of the place but its CHAO fun. anyways i've already booked two sofas, each can take about ten people and the reest we just squeeze lah yeahh! : ). so its two dollars an hour so you just pay 6 dollars each (but then got student discount so not sure)

Basically this place is like a mino house lah. it has like 100 over games from Twister to Uno to Cards to Batterfield, to Blink, Boomtown, Chess, Weiqi (YANMING), Formula Racing, Scrabble, Snap, and Street Soccer (but this one must pay extra heh. sorry). so yeahh. and we can just play games over dinner and leave anytime we want lah! : ).

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh Yeah" said the son.

"So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them. With this the boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."

Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have. What is one's person's worthless object is another's prize possession. It is all based on one's perspective. Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for all the bounty we have instead of worrying about wanting more. Take joy and appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends.

1. It promises to be a night of laughs and tears, an unforgettable experience for everyone.

2. It's cheap and economical compared to other plays, and the actors are as qualified as professional ones.

3. It's a good way to spend your angbao money, and to treat yourself to a night of Chinese drama after the hectic term.

4. It's value for money, unlike talent time which scams your 10 bucks for obvious reasons (ipods). Ok just joking... but you all must support our own school mah!

5. Me and Lijing are in it, so must support us even though we are not actors. I am sure you all know many of the actors and would want to show them your support as well.

6. Huang Cheng is our school's very own production and we take less than 3 months to prepare for the night, including making our own props, costumes, etc. We need your support!

7. We are part of the big Hwa Chong family and Huang Cheng is one of our school's major events. It is through these events that we can bond together as one big family and most importantly, show our Hwa Chong spirit.

8. To promote appreciation of the arts! Even if you don't like Chinese drama, I promise that you'd have second thoughts after watching Huang Cheng.

9. This year's theme for Huang Cheng is love!

hey ppl, its me nicholas foo. after i read dennis' post, i felt an irresistible urge to write abt my favourite movie of alltime, A WALK TO REMEMBER!

okay i guess some of you have alr heard abt this movie but for those who have not, its time for you all to rush down to the nearest dvd/vcd store and grab it! actually, you all can just borrow frm me cos i've the book, vcd as well as the original sound track.

A Walk To Remember is abt a high school student named landon carter, who committed some offences and had to participate in the school's annual drama production as well as give tuition to students in the neighbouring school as punishment. through all these activities, he fell in love with the absolutely gorgeous girl, jamie sullivan. she is a devout christian, who never fails to light up other ppl's lives and lend a helping hand to others. also, she doesnt bother abt others' perceptions of her and not to forget, she is extremely pretty and demure.

they went through alot to be tgt but sadly, she contracted leukemia and stopped receiving treatment. landon carter didnt abandon her and instead, he fulfilled all of her wishes one by one, even marrying her, which is her top wish. they had a perfect summer together, with more love than most ppl get in their entire life. their love life is just so awesome that i think it cant never exist in real life. and a girl like jamie sullivan, can never exist - according to yuan kheng.

Let me introduce you to a new drama called Hana-kimi. (yuan kheng would be very happy coz she, winky, sher hann and me watch it.does huiping watch?i think so.) starring wuzun and wang dong cheng from fei1 lun2 hai3, and ella from SHE. its a very funny taiwan drama, probably the best coz usually taiwanese drama are damn crappy or draggy or meaningless, but thsi one at elast its super funny and the plot is interesting.

it is abt thsi girl (ella) who would like to see wuzun to do high jump, and specially migrated from US to taiwan to hun4 into the school. so she became wuzun's classmate+roommate! and a lot of funny stuff happenning between them. like those embarassing moments like taking hot spring bath together (accidentally)...being drunk and kena kissed by the guy...and stuff. yepyep nice drama. muz watch. can go youtube! juz type HANAKIMI ep1 and you will find alot of links. too many actually. yay!

well. i am amused. hope you guys are too. ares won 3/7 hmm yeahhh but unfortunately the best play went to apollo : (. rather sad i guess about it. but oh well. i dun know if i should post emo stuff on this blog but eh. since the judges say must post everything about your school life on this blog, i guess i shall add a little spice yeahh : ). if its too long, just skip it lah : ).

yeah i guess i still feel upset and i'll probably feel that way for a rather long time. i got the picture which we all took together and we look gorgeous together : ). i guess its kinda stupid that ares won like 3 out of 7 of the awards but i still feel sad. i guess, i just felt over confident. i totally convinced myself that we were going to win the best play even with strong competition. and so when everyone was so nervous and scared, i was alright cause i was still having my "bai re meng". i know its quite stupid to feel sad but somehow even though one day has passed, i still cry when i hear people mention about dramafest.

after all the sweat we put and all the slapping and pushing and emotional struggle, we still didn't win. and in a way, i feel rather cheated. which is stupid cause i kinda cheated myself. i really really really did want ares to win but i guess apollo wanted apollo to win, artemis wanted artemis to win and so did athena. yet there could only be one winner. in a way, i felt that i could have done better. you know when you fail, you start questioning yourself. i just wanted to make sure that ares could win enough points as much as we could just to push the fac ahead of all the other facs. and knowing that after all the hard work, you didn't really get rewarded (personally, i wanted supporting actress/actress) its kinda disappointing. and i guess these few days, i have been letting the cynical side of me take over. i mean like you tell yourself that you were great and that we are all winners. but the matter of fact is we didn't really win. and in a way, yeahh i feel horrible. upset over the fact that we didn't win best play and even more upset with myself for being so cynical.

so after the reality check and apollo was awarded, i just cried and cried and ruin all my makeup and thank you regina <3 for your shoulder it was really really really nice when i just ran into your arms !! (you make a gorgeous boyfriend). and then the tears just ran and i couldn't stop it. then i went into LT and i was a total mess. TOTALLY.

its saturday now. and yeah. i still feel horrible. and i think i'll still feel horrible on monday as well. and perhaps even when i run? hahah but i love ares thats what i know !! <3. nevertheless, i won't be a spoil sport in fact i am not really. i trust the judges and whatnot. in the first place, i wonder why i even took the competition seriously (i should be like yuxuan). acting is acting and boy do i love being a tcner and a theatre person. whoo. whatever. hahah.

nevertheless, 7A hope you guys can ignite the passion for ares and encourage all your friends and all your lovely aresians to jiayou for x-country and for CNY dance <3 love you guys so much. and may the ares fighting spirit be in you guys. KAZA KAZA FIGHTING whoo.

SCHOOL STEPS NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED

so it goes... how many different people have we seen walking on crutches since DAY 1 of JC?? there seems to be a few new addition everyday.. And the underlying cause?? It aint hard to tell. After interviewing some of the poor people on crutches, most have tripped badly in school. So to the lucky ones who have not (yet..) fallen victims to sprained ankles or crutches, how many have tripped over steps littered ALL over the JC??

These seemingly innocuous steps lurk at walkways, the way to the canteen, the area below LTs..... The question is, WHY HAVE THE SCHOOL NOT TAKEN STEPS TO REPLACE THE STEPS OR FIX THE PROB??? Do they want more students to fall prey to these steps and maybe piss the insurance company off till they stop providing coverage for broken ankles or such??!

Since Yuhan talked bout photo reps, lets make it a class mission to capture all oddly shaped steps or slightly noticeable steps that poses a HAZARD to the students. Imagine just how many problems a broken ankle can lead to. Firstly, the poor guy/girl becomes the laughing stock. Secondly, with X-country round the corner, how are top runners with broken feet gonna win for ARES?!?!(dont care if the other 3A runners break their ankles...jkjk...) Crutches are so freaking inconvenient!! U waste your friends' time when they are forced to be ur personal maids... zzz... And thats all for my first post of "SCHOOL RANT!!"

Ok. Just a little head's up that Harry Potter is coming out on 21st July. (This is old news btw). Harry wont die. I'm very sure. But I really don't really care, cos I think Harry is quite shitty. hahaha. I'm hoping that Luna won't die, cos she's like da bomb. Evanna Lynch is super hot in OOTP la. haha.

Oh yeah. In case you guys dunno. Survivor Fiji is coming up on this Friday. Ugh, personally, I would prefer to have a break cos Cook Islands was quite tiring for me. TV Guide says that they wanted another race twist, but a girl quit so they had to pull something out of their butts, last minute. haha.

Hi 7A! Please discuss class outing matters here, on the blog, so the blog will look more happening haha.
About ice skating, the rink is closed from 8th - 10th for hockey tournaments, so please take note. And I know that there is a K box opposite the rink, but I am not sure whether there is pool though.
+The rink will close at 5pm on 17th Feb.
++ Admission charges for skating is around $15 each for 2 hours.

And please be reminded to DO YOUR ECONS ASSIGNMENT. ~~I almost forgot about it.~~
